First edition, third state, as indicated by the following state points: title is "The Land of Oz" rather than "The Marvelous Land of Oz"; silver lettering on red cloth pictorial boards, with an image of the Scarecrow and the Tin Man shaking hands on the front and, on the back, an embossed image of Jack Pumpkinhead; sixteen color plates, illustrated by John R. Neill; date is 1904 on title page and July 1904 on copyright page. Book has been lovingly restored by an expert conservationist, with a reattached spine and several of the colour plates re-backed and and rebound. There is some normal shelf wear to the boards, and some tearing and creasing to a handful of pages, particularly the plates, as well as what appears to be a pen mark on the back cover. An inscription from the previous owner is on the first blank page ("Marion Morris, Xmas 1915") but pages otherwise clean and unmarked. The first sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Extremely rare, especially in this condition.
